How to Take Care of Your Lawn This Fall

The weather is changing and the temperatures are dropping pretty quick. Most of us just stop worrying about our lawns. No more mowing, weeding, pruning, or maintenance. You might be thinking, “Why would I need to take care of it? The grass is growing more slowly and the snow and ice are on their way!” Yes, this is true, but fall is the best time to prepare your lawn for the months ahead. It is time to do some extra maintenance so there is less to do in the spring.

Maintaining your Lawn

Here are a few things you can do this fall to ready your lawn for the winter. Not only will it help your lawn during the winter, but it will also give your lawn a jump-start in the spring. Avoid having to fix problems with dead grass or fungal issues with these tips.

During the fall you should:

  • Continue to mow throughout the fall
  • Drop the mower blade for the last two cuttings of the season
  • Water your lawn as needed
  • Consider aerating your lawn
  • Rake up leaves and remove them
  • Fertilize your lawn
  • Spray weed killer in early fall
