Do You Have A Diseased Tree?

Tree diseases, in general, is a nuisance to all of those involved. Whether you are a business owner or a homeowner, tree pests and diseases can have a lasting effect on your yard including shrubs, bushes, and other landscaping elements. In order to be proactive, it is important to understand the indications of tree disease.

How Do You Identify Diseased Trees?

There are several indicators that your tree(s) may be diseased. It is important to continue to monitor the trees in your yard to prevent trees from falling or negatively impacting the other landscaping in your yard.

Here are a few signs that larger issues may be at hand:

  • Dead branches
  • Abnormal Bark
  • Black Flowers or Shoots
  • Light Brown Shelves near the Base of the Tree
  • Leaf discoloration
  • Chalky Mildew

Dead Branches & Leaf Discoloration

Diseased Tree
Tree decay can be somewhat obvious. For instance, spotting consistent dead branches and leaves failing to appear in the spring are clear signs of a decaying tree. Sometimes branches become dry and riddled with holes because pests have infected the tree. And other times, consistent leaf discoloration is a sign of a tree’s poor health as well. However, at times, it is not so obvious that a tree’s health is deteriorating. For example, one sign of internal rot includes mushroom growth on the bark.

Abnormal Bark & Tree Structure

A tree that is beginning to lean may have some interior root issues. In fact, the overall architecture of the tree may be a sign of a decaying tree. Along with a leaning tree, if a tree is split, or one side of the tree seems to be hanging low, you may want to call a landscaper. Additionally, if you are noticing areas of smooth wood where the bark has fallen off, this may also be a sign of a diseased tree.
